For the exclusive spa area of a private residence in the Allgäu region of Germany, the mosaicists at VAN TREECK dug out an old stock of historical gold materials from their own cellar archive. They cut the 10 x 10 cm slabs into individual pieces and painstakingly assemble them into an overall composition. The finished gold mosaic is then laid on the bathroom floor and grouted.

The raw mosaic material from the 1910s consists of a layer of glass onto which 24-carat gold leaf and another very thin layer of glass are hot-pressed in the manufactory. This process creates a very special, high quality and extremely durable raw material for use on floors, walls and ceilings. The size of the individual fragments provides the necessary slip resistance in wet areas.

In a house in the Allgäu region, bespoke cuts of historic gold mosaic material create an elegant floor design for the shower.
