Diversity in craftsmanship

Our workshops are located in the rear courtyard of Schwindstrasse 3, the historic home of the Bayerische Hofglasmalerei (Royal Bavarian Studios for Glass Painting). In the heart of the Bavarian capital, in Munich's Maxvorstadt district, our consultants, craftsmen and restoration specialists work in an area of around 1,000 square metres. The glaziery, the stained-glass workshops, the mosaic workshops, our restoration department, a design studio, the offices and a unique material store are all housed in the building where founder Gustav van Treeck and his team unleashed the creative power of our craftsmanship in 1887.

Our expertise: glass finishing in various techniques, artistic glazing, glass and natural stone mosaics as well as restoration and reconstruction of historical stained glass and mosaic art.

Modern glass painting

Glass offers a wide range of technical possibilities for artistic work in architecture. Artists, designers and architects appreciate the traditional knowledge of glass finishing and the modern techniques and equipment available at the house of van Treeck.

We approach the artistic idea with openness and curiosity in order to find the optimum technical solution for the project, depending on the intention and the available budget.

The Techniques:

- Historical stained glass painting
- Contemporary glass painting
- Stained Glass
- Float Glass Painting
- Etching flashed glass
- Airbrushing with ceramic paints
- Screen and transfer printing
- Ceramic Digital Printing
- CAD printing techniques
- Fusing (melting glass)
- Sinking (moulding, relief)
- Various bonding techniques
- Mirroring (also partial)
- Antique mirror coating
- Laminating
- Thermal toughening (ESG, VSG, TVG)

Mosaic

Mosaic, the ancient art of assembling coloured pieces of stone or glass, requires a great deal of skill: what looks like a jumble of colours at first glance becomes a striking image when viewed from a distance.

Mosaicists use hammers and mandrels to work the raw materials into the final piece of the puzzle. With creative skill, they transform the ideas of contemporary artists into works for eternity.

The possibilities:

- Ceiling, wall and floor mosaics
- Mosaic pictures and objects
- Handmade glass cakes, smalts
- Gold mosaic (partly historical)
- Natural stones
- Ceramics, porcelain stoneware
- Industrial glass mosaic
- Handmade lime-sand cubes
- Terrazzo- Pixel Mosaics
- Mosaics from cut pieces
- Mixed material mosaics
- Relief or flat surfaces
- Jointless composition
- Grouting (also coloured)
- Sealing

Conservation

Repair, conserve, restore: The workshop's close cooperation with the national heritage authorities and its highly qualified restorers are the prerequisites for the success of sensitive restoration work.

For us, restoration means safeguarding and preserving the objects, i.e. maintaining the 'old' condition as best as possible, restoring it if necessary and ensuring that it remains in good condition.
