To mark the 125th anniversary of the death of King Ludwig II in June 2011, the Bayerische Hofgasmalerei restored the artistically designed oriental windows in the Moorish Kiosk at Linderhof Palace.

To do this, the restorers first dismantled the mosaic of coloured glass panes set in a gilded ornamental frame. They then cleaned and strengthened the glass, in some cases gluing and replenishing the panes. They straightened the frame before reassembling the mosaic into a magnificent work of art.

The conservation work was completed in 2014 with the restoration of the arched windows. The Moorish Kiosk was originally created for the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867. King Ludwig II acquired it and had it lavishly decorated.

Following restoration, the oriental stained glass windows in the Moorish Kiosk shine in new splendour and create a mysterious light.
