In contrast to the cool exposed concrete wall of the new funeral parlour in Dornach near Munich, the glass designed and manufactured by van Treeck allows warm yellow light to enter the prayer room. The cross consists of several panes. The division refers to the concrete element into which the glass cross is set.

The panes were designed in several stages: First, the flat glass panes were given a structure (structure firing) in the glass furnace at around 720 degrees Celsius. The next step was to place the panes on a large light table in the intended arrangement. The glass painters in the workshops painted the panes with a silver-yellow colour to match the structure of the glass.

This special glass paint is absorbed into the glass surface during firing, giving the panes a glassy, transparent brilliance. After a colour band at 620 degrees Celsius, the glass painters worked out different structures and depths by applying another coat of paint. Finally, a final colour firing solidified the paintings.

Textured painted glass and exposed concrete - the perfect combination for contemplative spaces
