A delicate mosaic for a traditional Munich company: Following the remodelling of its confectionery department, the Dallmayr delicatessen has commissioned an enchanting illustrative wall mosaic for its chocolate counter. It was created by the VAN TREECK mosaic workshops following a design of Lumisol.

Mosaic artists from Bayerische Hofglasmalerei "painted" the artwork behind the counter using over one thousand pieces of glass per square metre. Stylised cocoa plants are depicted on a soft pink-beige background.

The craftsmen and women broke glass malts (pieces of glass measuring 2 x 1 cm) into smaller pieces and cut larger pieces for the background from glass cakes (oval plates of glass measuring approximately 50 x 25 cm). This is how they painstakingly created the decorative motif by hand.

Historical gold mosaic material was used for the Dallmayr logo. Around 6,000 'customised' pieces of glass were used in total. The mosaic consists of several panels, each measuring approximately 40 x 40 cm. The craftspeople produced these in the workshop on mesh using a direct bonding technique. They applied the glass pieces with mortar.

They assembled the motif like a jigsaw puzzle to form a complete work measuring around six square metres.Following a brief remodelling period, Dallmayr unveiled the redesigned confectionery department, featuring an expanded selection of chocolates. The centrepiece of this department, which is full of artistic and architectural highlights, is the praline counter with the glass mosaic designed by VAN TREECK.
